Abstract

Language education in prison represents a chance for inmates to improve, focusing on intercultural communication, social mediation, and the creation of syllabi and learning and teaching materials. However, the current training for foreign inmates who decide to enroll in university courses lacks in terms of adequate L2 Italian competence for academic purposes. The paper presents the initial findings from a project carried out within the Polo Universitario Penitenziario Toscano, focusing on the training of L2 Italian teachers, including preparation for the CILS-DASU test, a component of the CILS exams suite.
