Which training for teachers of Italian as Second Language to beneficiaries of international protection: criticalities and excellencies

Abstract

Many beneficiaries of international protection do not manage, after training courses, to reach levels of linguistic autonomy to integrate in the host community and to undertake work activities This paper presents the results of a survey devoted to verify the effectiveness of the training offered in Italian as Second Language courses. From the data, the need for specific training for teachers emerges, on the management of intercultural, multilevel and multilingual reflection in order to deal with the communicative needs of the beneficiaries, which are substantially different from those of other groups of learners. It also emerges that about half of the beneficiaries would like to receive more effective training on Italian Language for specific purposes.
